I think the iPhone is overhyped.

No mms support, no sms forwarding. I think it's missing the basic phone features. I think it's just a good mobile computer, with the phone capabilities put in as an extra.

Safari browser :- Clearly one of the worst browser ever made.
First of all, browsers should be pluralized, but aside from grammar nazi comments, the Safari browser is highly lauded and the browser to beat in mobile browsing. This is one of the things that give the iPhone a major edge over competitors such as the Samsung Instinct. While it’s true that Safari has a smaller portion of users as a desktop browser, a good developer has mostly browser agnostic design habits. Lastly, Mobile Firefox would be great, but it simply doesn’t exist. Yell at Mozilla for that one, it’s not the iPhone’s fault that the Mozilla team haven’t released yet. >> Safari in Iphone is a desktop browser and not the mobile version. And if only you know, Mozilla Firefox 3 is also a desktop browser. So, your point is totally invalid. And yeah, I am not saying that Safari is a bad choice, based on my perception. This is what all the test results and statistics shows.

Camera :- Compare the high end phones with Apple’s revolutionary crap, its camera is just there for name.
Ok, while the camera is not fantastic and I can at least understand your point here, it is not completely true. Look again at one of its main competitors, the Blackberry Bold and it also has a 2.0 MP camera. Another rival, the Samsung Instinct has…a 2.0 MP camera. So while it clearly doesn’t have the best camera of any phone on the market, it is no slacker when pitted against its competitors. >> Again the same Megapixel crap. Hello, do you even know that, mega pixels are just a measure of resolution, and not the quality.

No PDA functionality :- A smartphone with nothing usable for a enterprise user, wow that’s great.
Have you heard about the iPhone 2.0 software? It added functionality for OTA syncing with Exchange or Apple’s newly released MobileMe. It also includes a mobile wipe in case it falls into the wrong hands. >> That's it. What about text to speech, voice recognition, contact forwarding, MMS, and most important Copy-Paste. How many times do you have used copy paste in your comment only? Can you do that with Iphone? You can't live without copy-paste, can you?

No anti virus :- Do i need to say anything about the requirement of a good anti-virus software?
Why would this be a complaint? If there were a need for anti-virus software and it were disallowed then I suppose I’d understand, but having a well constructed system that stays virus free without third party software sounds pretty good to me! >> Do you mean that iphone is invincible for any kind of hack? Come on. Jail breaking the iphone is nothing but a hacking technique into its security features. I have access to Root user for iphone. What else do i need to steal your information? Should I ask for your permission before hacking into your device. :)

High Pricing :- Already said a lot about it in the earlier post
I already addressed this above as well, but again given the feature set that is provided and the pricing of its competitors, the iPhone is extremely well priced. >> If that's the case, why is iphone priced $200 in U.S. and $750 in India.? And if you are talking about subsidy, even without that, unlocked iphone costs just $599 in U.S., while in India, for $750, you get a locked phone. Is it what you call a competitive pricing? Blackberries, cost nearly the same as unlocked iphone in U.S., while in India, they cost way too less than Iphone. Obviously, at $200 or even at $300, iphone is a steal. But for, $750, its a trick played to get profit of the hype. What say?

I think, I do have answered every question of yours. I am not saying that Iphone is too bad. Its good, if compared with mid range phones, but calling it a highly sophisticated phone is totally stupid. Its nothing, but a compromise with usability to get the showoff value, just like the Mac Book Air. Apple is just trying to create enough hype, for its product, and everyone is buying them, even without knowing that they are actually paying much more than what they should.

Syncing with PC :- Why do I have to use iTune for copying music files from PC?
I’d rather use iTunes which is available on Mac or PC for free than have to buy a piece of software like Missing Sync in order to be able to sync my phone. I needed it to sync my old Windows Mobile phone and it was expensive and slow. iTunes consistently workes well and is free for both PC and Mac users. >>
And have you ever tried copying files directly, or using "Send To" option?

No Radio? I don’t think I’ve *ever* owned a phone with radio. Again, it’s just not on my priority list. I think perhaps you’re expecting the iPhone to have every feature possibly available on a phone, which is just ridiculous. It’s interesting, though, that you have such high expectations of Apple - clearly they are a company that has enormously impressed you with just how high quality and feature-packed their products generally are. >> I don't like to own every music I listen to. And with so slow network speeds in India, internet radio is no choice. We use FM on a daily basis to get an idea about the newly released album, before buying it. Can we do that in Iphone?

The camera? I find it great. I use it several times a day for quick snaps of things when I’m out and about, and the photos are clearer and have better colour balance than my previous camera phone, which was a Sony Ericsson. Again, your mileage may vary, but the camera isn’t the reason I got the iPhone. It’s nice to have, but without it, I wouldn’t particularly miss it.>> I use Moto Rokr E6 these days. And I can say, that its far better than Iphone's camera. Also, camera quality is not measured in terms of megapixels, if only you have an idea about that. Whatever you are talking about is very basic thing. I do read photography magazines, and do know how to compare camera quality. You wanna know more about those tests, kindly read "Better Photography".

No PDA functionality?! You are kidding, right? You’re aware that enterprise support for Exchange was specifically built into the new iPhone, right? >> I think you have not even used any PDA. A PDA is not just about Exchange support or synchronisation. Have you ever tried handwriting recognition, text to speech, contact forwarding, video calling, OTA sync, etc. Well you should try those features first, before commenting next time.

Screen Luminance - again, I’m beginning to think that you’ve maybe not even used an iPhone when you say that it is completely invisible in daylight. With the brightness turned up to max it’s incredibly easy to read, even in direct sunlight on the sunniest days in the middle of summer. I know, because I’ve spent a lot of time outside, looking at google maps in the middle of summer on it. >> Are you gonna keep the brightness on Max, everytime? Nope. Can't I have an option to increase luminance on the go, whenever necessary. My Moto Rokr, supports that.

Oh, come on guys. I am fed up with comparing my Rokr E6 with Iphone. Iphone is just a peice of shit in comparison of Rokr. And what more, it costs just 30% of Iphone's price in India.

Ok, guys. You will never understand the facts, cuz you are way too into hype. For your information, I have used Iphone for 1 week (exchanged it with my friend for moto rokr e6), and all the points mentioned above are my own experience except 3G. Well, for all those apple fan boys, few answers to your concerns :-

@Sumesh

>>No Flash and Java
May come to iPhone without support of Apple (as apps) >> Do you mean that you are ready to pay for every application instead of downloading it for free, and do you have ever checked getjar.comand their extensive list of apps available. Can Apple ever compete with that?

>>No anti virus
For what? mac os x has fewer viruses than you have fingers. >> Are you kidding? Number of viruses doesn't matter. Even a single virus is enough to give you enough shit. And tell me, who is gonna stop me from accessing malicious sites, and screwing up my precious phone and data.

>>App Store
The whole point of not allowing multiple tasks is to increase battery life and provide a streamlined experience. I guess you don’t get it. >> Do you have ever used any PDA, except your stupid Iphone. Every single PDA allows multiple third party apps. And it doesn't affect battery life anyway. I am an I.T. graduate, and do have enough idea about multi tasking. May be you should first read what exactly it is, and how it is implemented in Linux.

>>Battery Life
Tell me one modern digital device that has enough battery life. The last I can remember is non-color display phones, which aren’t exactly modern. >> Not allowing multi tasking to increase battery life, and still iphone's battery goes down first when competed with other PDAs. And yeah, your point is that, no device has got enough battery. But for other PDAs, you can have a spare battery, in case you need it. Can you do that in Iphone?

>>Stupid touch screen keyboard
Once you get used to it, you would hate using crappy old Crackberries or whatever. It is just another input method, which takes time to adjust to. I doubt if you have even used an iPhone, seeing many points in this post. >> Do you have even read the post completely? I clearly mentioned that the issue is the way it is implemented. My Rokr E6 also has got touch pad only, and I love that one. Atleast I can type email id's at one go. Can you do that in Iphone? Getting used to, is not an issue here. I am already using touch pad for a year. Got my point, mr. apple-shit lover.

>>2 year contract
If it is against the law, why didn’t anyone sue Apple? It is their phone, they choose to tie it to an operator so you can get it for $200 in USA and elsewhere. Can’t live with it? Don’t buy one, don’t even think/write about iPhones. >> Sorry, but you can't stop me from writing about Iphone. No law can. And about filing case against Apple, that's exactly what I asked for. Why do we have seen so many lawsuits against Microsoft, when they tried creating monopoly? Cuz, it was against the law, and it still is against the law, only if you know what a law is.

>>3G speed
That is your operator’s fault. >> Tested for same operator with Iphone and other PDAs. Speed is nearly half of actual 3G speed. Any answers for that? Also, network strength for different Iphones at same place is different. Try it out with some other shit-lover friend of yours, and check whether you two guys get same signal everywhere. LOL

>>Call Dropping
Do you live in Amazon forest? Get a life. Atleast I don't live on my carrier's satellite. :P And whenever you are at a place with just 50% network strength, call dropping is more frequent in Iphone. And what about clarity? I was not able to hear my friend's voice on the other side of phone, while in my office. Do you call your office, a jungle? Well I don't.

>>Camera
iPhone isn’t about camera, for that matter, a 5 MP camera can beat every other camera phone out there, so you’re probably better off with a camera+iPhone. >> Well in that case, I have a better choice, if I have to juggle with a lots of gadgets everytime. What about a Moto Rokr E6, which is much better in every aspect than iphone, except music, and a Cowon's PMP? Can your stupid Iphone/Ipod, match that brilliance of Cowon? Or what about a basic phone, a PMP, a camera, a GPS? This is what Mr. Jobs and you guys meant when you said "Iphone is a great convergence device"? Better buy a dictionary, dude.

>>High Pricing
If you want it dirt cheap, get a Motorola/Nokia. I’m sick of people saying “India is a developing country and hence people shouldn’t spend so much money”. Such people should probably look around in their homes to see all those stuff that cost more than the iPhone.
Besides, the high price is partially because we don’t have a one-operator exclusivity in India. >> Do you have even checked the Indian pricing? Why should we pay four times? Just because Iphone is developed in your country? And why in Japan, its so cheap? Do those guys in Japan, licked your asses to get iphone at cheaper rates? I always said, we will pay exactly the same price as in U.S. or any other country. What's wrong? We arenot asking for subsidy. We are just asking for fair pricing. 200 dollar equals 8,700rs. That's all I know. Ok, being an import, we can pay you 10,000 max., but 31,000 is totally shit. And yeah, i don't like any fucking asshole, saying anything about my country. Technology understands no boundaries. Got that, kiddo.

Atleast I can type email id’s at one go.

>> Sorry, but you can’t stop me from writing about Iphone. No law can. And about filing case against Apple, that’s exactly what I asked for.

Get a life. Atleast I don’t live on my carrier’s satellite. And whenever you are at a place with just 50% network strength, call dropping is more frequent in Iphone. And what about clarity? I was not able to hear my friend’s voice on the other side of phone, while in my office. Do you call your office, a jungle? Well I don’t.

>>Camera
iPhone isn’t about camera, for that matter, a 5 MP camera can beat every other camera phone out there, so you’re probably better off with a camera+iPhone. >> Well in that case, I have a better choice, if I have to juggle with a lots of gadgets everytime. What about a Moto Rokr E6, which is much better in every aspect than iphone, except music, and a Cowon’s PMP? Can your stupid Iphone/Ipod, match that brilliance of Cowon? Or what about a basic phone, a PMP, a camera, a GPS? This is what Mr. Jobs and you guys meant when you said “Iphone is a great convergence device”?

What’s wrong? We arenot asking for subsidy. We are just asking for fair pricing. 200 dollar equals 8,700rs. That’s all I know. Ok, being an import, we can pay you 10,000 max., but 31,000 is totally shit. And yeah, i don’t like any fucking asshole, saying anything about my country. Technology understands no boundaries. Got that, kiddo.

@Sumesh,
Another point made that Apple fan boys never agree to any thing. Your point is like get used to the device and everything works fine, thats ridiculous.

"Tell me one modern digital device that has enough battery life." completly disagree this, dont argue that battery life is not important, its the most important thing when it comes to mobile, will you get a laptop which is the msot modern and will give you only half an hour on battery?

iPhone isn't for any features it lacks, its only for Apple fans, thats the conclusion I can get from your statement.

iPhone is rightly priced? You mean to say that in your last statement? Can't stop laughing.

iPhone is worth only for a 15k or max 18k with its features, who care the under lying technology.

I'm also sick hearing the hype of iPhone! waste of money for 36k.

Hey you both commentators above me, just don't be crazy as you might be having an iPhone.
Everybody is aware of the fact that until iPhone reaches India, most of the features don't work.

No 3G, 2 MP camera, and there are a lot of other features that are not working in India. So why to buy that no-sense phone for Rs. 31000 and Rs. 36100?

I had opened an online petition against Airtel and Vodafone, and lets see how it goes when i send the letters to both of them - http://www.thewwwblog.com/open-letter-to-airtel-vodafone-iphone-is-overpriced.html

While you do have many valid points, your article is significantly weakened by many striking errors.

"With a touch screen, you are bound to look at the screen, even for changing volume."
There is a dedicated volume rocker on the iPhone...Although your complaints about a touch screen are yours to make, basing it on the lack of a dedicated hardware volume control is inaccurate.

2 year contract
A fair complaint, but nearly every phone is the same way. Looking at a comparable phone, the Blackberry Bold is $399 with a contract and $1,000 without!

While it's true that Safari has a smaller portion of users as a desktop browser, a good developer has mostly browser agnostic design habits. Lastly, Mobile Firefox would be great, but it simply doesn't exist. Yell at Mozilla for that one, it's not the iPhone's fault that the Mozilla team haven't released yet.

Another rival, the Samsung Instinct has...a 2.0 MP camera. So while it clearly doesn't have the best camera of any phone on the market, it is no slacker when pitted against its competitors.

No PDA functionality :- A smartphone with nothing usable for a enterprise user, wow that’s great.
Have you heard about the iPhone 2.0 software? It added functionality for OTA syncing with Exchange or Apple's newly released MobileMe. It also includes a mobile wipe in case it falls into the wrong hands.

No Radio :- IPhone is for music too. But without FM, how can it be called a true music phone?
How many smartphones have FM built in? I don't know of any, but I don't claim to be an expert. While this would be a nice feature, the extra bulk that it would likely add would turn many users off from it. If you want radio, check out some free apps like Pandora or AOL Radio or last.fm which all offer free streaming music over EDGE, 3G, or WIFI.

Syncing with PC :- Why do I have to use iTune for copying music files from PC?
I'd rather use iTunes which is available on Mac or PC for free than have to buy a piece of software like Missing Sync in order to be able to sync my phone. I needed it to sync my old Windows Mobile phone and it was expensive and slow. iTunes consistently workes well and is free for both PC and Mac users.

App Store :- Why should I pay a hell lot of money, for every stupid application?
Most of the apps sold on the App Store are free! You don't have to pay a hell of a lot of money for every stupid application!

No anti virus :- Do i need to say anything about the requirement of a good anti-virus software?
Why would this be a complaint? If there were a need for anti-virus software and it were disallowed then I suppose I'd understand, but having a well constructed system that stays virus free without third party software sounds pretty good to me!

High Pricing :- Already said a lot about it in the earlier post
I already addressed this above as well, but again given the feature set that is provided and the pricing of its competitors, the iPhone is extremely well priced.

While you're certainly entitled to your own opinion, half of your reasons are either factually wrong or inaccurate. I'd suggest doing your research next time you write an article...
