Apple has released the iPhone 2.2 software update late Thursday, offering major upgrades to the Maps application and adding support for the direct downloading of podcasts.This iPhone 2.2 software update is for both generations of the iPhone and iPod touch. Users can easily get this updated version via iTunes by connecting an iPhone or iPod touch and clicking the Check for Updates button and it is approximately 250 MB in size.
The iPhone 2.2 update contains lots of features such as support for the direct downloading of podcasts, enhancements to Mail, fixes connection issues with WPA-secured wireless networks, improves Safari stability, and includes a new preference to turn off auto-correction for typing. Improved security features are ImageIO, networking, Office Viewer, updating CoreGraphics, Passcode Lock, Safari and Webkit and many more available on Apple’s website.
The Maps application now become more improved that includes support for Google Street View, Public transit and walking directions, Display address of dropped pins, Share location via email. Now discuss about another good feature support downloading of podcasts directly without connecting to a Mac or PC running iTunes. Although the resulting downloads are easily accessible from the iPod application, then Get More Episodes link has been added beneath the list of podcast episodes—the actual finding and downloading of podcasts.
The update contains the following changes are mentioned below-

- Decrease in call failures/dropped-calls.
- Fix for a scheduled fetching of email bug.
- Improved stability and performance of Safari.

- Podcasts can be downloaded right to the iPhone over Wi-Fi or 3G.

In addition to these features- When you delete an app from the phone, the iPhone will ask you to rate the app on a one-to-five point scale before you delete it, whether it’s for the feedback perspective or else not clear. iPhone 2.2 update displays multiple screen shots for apps, rather than just one. When you tap a screen shot in the App Store app, it brings up a slideshow of screen shots. And one more thing is Previews of screen shots now display in iPhoto, previously screen-shot images appeared in iPhoto as blank images until they were imported.
