Sometimes downloading ZIP and RAR files create unnecessary clutter on your computer. To address this issue, Google has added a new feature in Gmail, that will enable you to view ZIP and RAR files without downloading them.

When somebody will send you ZIP or RAR files, simply click on view and you will be able to view its contents within your web browser.

This will bring up a view that includes all of the files in the archive, the file types, and the size of those files.

When you hover over the list you can activate a menu by clicking Actions. You’ll be able to View items supported by Google Docs Viewer and Print (PDF) those that we offer PDF support. Save to Google Docs and Download appear for all files. ZIP and RAR archives that are embedded inside other archives also work.

Disable Content Resharing

When you share something and same content is again shared by your connections is called content resharing. Google plus allows you to have control over content  resharing. To disable resharing of a certain post after posting it: Just click the arrow in the upper-right-hand corner of the post and then click Disable resharing.

Enable/Disable SMS Notification 

Google Plus send SMS notifications to your iPhone and Android devices. These notifications eat up a lot of battery life.

  • Go to Google+ settings (click the gear icon at top right).
  • Under “Set delivery preferences”, look for the option for push notifications.
  • Select the option “Don’t notify me”.
  • If you want SMS notification, Select “SMS” option.

Share Content via SMS

Share your thoughts in the Google+ stream via SMS by texting your update to 9222222222 (India). Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Posts are shared with Your circles by default. Your circles includes everyone in your circles. Posting via SMS is only available in India at this time. Use the shortcuts below to share your posts with specific people or circles:

  1. @[circle name] : To share with a specific circle, append your post with @[circle name]. For example: "Will see you at the game @soccerfolks".
  2. @extended :To share with everyone in your extended circles, append your post with @extended. For example: "Any SF restaurant recommendations? @extended".
  3. @public :To share your post publicly, append your post with @public. Public posts are viewable by anyone on the web. For example: “Any SF restaurant recommendations? @public”.
  4. @[email address] :To share your post with a specific person, append your post with @[email address]. For example, "In SF for the week @jazzguitar9@gmail.com" will be visible to jazzguitar9@gmail.com

Use Text Formatting In Google Plus

You can add basic text styles to some of your Google Plus text. Paired asterisks (*text*) make bold text, paired underscores (_text_) make italics, and paired dashes (-text-) make strikethroughs.

Search by Image is available in 40 languages. To get started with Search By Image, download the Chrome extension or the Firefox extension. With the extension installed, simply right-click an image on the web to search Google with that image.

Search by image is optimized to work well for content that is reasonably well described on the web. For this reason, you’ll likely get more relevant results for famous landmarks or paintings than you will for more personal images like your toddler’s latest finger painting.

How it works

Google uses computer vision techniques to match your image to other images in the Google Images index and additional image collections. From those matches, we try to generate an accurate "best guess" text description of your image, as well as find other images that have the same content as your search image. Your search results page can show results for that text description as well as related images.

There is no information available, when this feature will be available on Internet Explorer.

Earlier there is no way to find out whether people are actually opening and viewing your documents. Apart from this you do not have any way to track how many hits your documents has received for last seven days. To address all these issues Google introduces “Document Statistics”. With the help of Document Statistics you can see last seven days activity on your Google documents. All you have to do is to click on the Discussions button and then the Document stats link, you can now see the 7-day activity of your doc.


As of now Document Statistics is having very basic features.The document stats pane shows the number of page views your document has received and the number of discussions on a particular day of the week. Just below the document stats pane, there is the comment box where all the shared users can post a new comment or reply to an existing comment that has been already posted.

Email notification also get a revamped , Instead of sending the entire discussion in reverse chronological order, you will be able to see selected text and most recent comment, with the full thread in chronological order below

So whenever someone post a new comment, all shared members will get an email with most recent comments instead of entire discussion thread.

The user interface of Discussion pane is also visually tuned up. The discussion pane now shows the selected text for each comment thread, making it easy to figure out which part of the document each discussion pertained to.

Sometimes, discussions can get a little long and start to clutter your workspace, particularly if guy-who-always-replies takes the discussion on a tangent. Now, long discussions are automatically collapsed and expanded on click.
