Synchronization Services for ADO.NET Available For Download

Synchronization Services for ADO.NET Available For Download Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET 1.0 provides the ability to synchronize data from disparate sources. Rather than simply replicating a database and its schema, the Synchronization Services application programming interface (API) provides a set of components to synchronize data between data services and a local store. Applications are increasingly used on mobile clients, such as laptops and devices that do not have a consistent or reliable network connection to a central server. It is crucial for these applications to work against a local copy of data on the client. Equally important is the need to synchronize the local copy of the data with a central server when a network connection is available. The Synchronization Services API, which is modeled after the ADO.NET data access APIs, gives you an intuitive way to synchronize data. It makes building applications for occasionally connected environments a logical extension of building applications where you can count on a consistent network connection.

Synchronization Services for ADO.NET 1.0, which released with Visual Studio 2008, enabled synchronization between a server database and a SQL Compact 3.5 client database running on a desktop. With this download, you can also synchronize between a server database and a SQL Compact database on a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device.

System Requirements

Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET requires ADO.NET 2.0 on the server. Synchronization Services requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) for device clients. The server database can be any database for which an ADO.NET provider is available, such as SQL Server 2005. The client database for Synchronization Services applications is SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 1 and later versions.
Synchronization Services is supported on the following device operating systems:

  • Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0
  • Windows CE 5.0 and 6.0

Installation Instruction

Download and run SyncServices.MSI. The Synchronization Services runtime binaries and cabs will be installed under %Programfiles%\Microsoft Synchronization Services\ADO.NET\v1.0\Devices.
Install the following products if they are not already installed:

  • Synchronization Services for ADO.NET 1.0 x86 (released with both SQL Server Compact 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008) must be installed on the database server or middle-tier server. It is required for server components, such as Server Synchronization Provider.
  • SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1 must be installed on the device.

Microsoft announced Bluetrack - Bye Bye Laser Mouse

After a lot of panicking years with the scroll mouses, PC users saw light when optical mouse came in. Obviously they were not that precise and sensitive, but at least users got rid of ball mouse sucking up all the dust like a vacuum cleaner. And then there were laser mouse, meant for better senstivity. Still something is really lacking, when it comes to use mouse on a shiny granite, or rough concrete. Even laser mouse suffers from sensitivity loss, in case of extreme roughness or glossy surfaces.

And here we go. Microsoft has announced a new technology for its mice, meant to provide optical sensitivity with laser precision. Named Bluetrack, this technology will be exclusive to Microsoft Mice, and will be available soon enough in two new mouse “Microsoft Explorer” and its mini-version. “Microsoft Explorer” is a rechargeable mouse, and promises 3 weeks of usage with one full charge. With a battery indicator therein and 4-way scrolling, it will be a boom for those into graphic designing or other such tasks, which needs better control over mouse pointer. With the blue halo around the base, this one looks real killer. No need to say, every gaming enthusiasts would love to own one.

Its mini version, is just different in size and power source. While the big daddy is a rechargeable version, this one runs on single AA battery, sufficient for nearly 6 months of usage. Looks are once again a killer. But being smaller in size, notebook users can really go for it. Both of these mice are expected to be available in retail by october.

Being better precision mouse, these will obviously be priced higher at sub-$100 mark. Also, this new technology works well for extremities, but fails miserably for glass and mirrored surfaces. Looking forward to new technologies, that come up to take care of this issue. Till then, enjoy Bluetrack.

IE8 Beta2 Contains Keystroke Logger

IE8 Beta2 Contains Keystroke Logger Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Beta2 has a keystroke logger suggestion tool similar to used by Google for its Google suggest feature.  Unlike the Google Chrome IE8 keystroke feature is not enabled by default, IE8 beat2 users has to enable this feature. Microsoft does not enable Suggest site feature by default but they are asking using users whether they want to use Suggested feature or not after the IE8 beat2 installation. This makes a huge difference as compare to Google’s Chrome because Google Chrome enables this feature by default.Microsoft Suggested site privacy statement privacy statement does not provide any information how long Microsoft server will keep user data as compare to Google where Google has clearly mentioned that they will delete the user data after nine months. Only thing I like to see in this is that Microsoft has to make a clear statement how long they will kept user data.

Microsoft Suggested site privacy statement

Suggested Sites is an online experience designed to show you which websites you visit most, and to provide you with suggestions of other websites you might be interested in visiting. When you turn on Suggested Sites, your web browsing history is sent to Microsoft, where it is saved and compared to a frequently updated list of websites that are similar to ones you visit often. You can choose to pause or stop this feature from sending your web browsing history to Microsoft at any time. You can also delete individual entries from your history at any time. Deleted entries will not be used to provide you suggestions for other websites, although they will be retained by Microsoft for a period of time to help improve our products and services, including this feature. Any websites you visit while InPrivate Browsing is active will not be sent to Microsoft.

When Suggested Sites is turned on, the addresses of websites you visit are sent to Microsoft, together with some standard information from your computer such as IP address, browser type, and regional and language settings. To help protect your privacy, the information is encrypted when sent to Microsoft. Information associated with the web address, such as search terms or data you entered in forms might be included. For example, if you visited the Microsoft.com search website at http://search.microsoft.com and entered “Seattle” as the search term, the full address http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?q=Seattle&qsc0=0&FORM=QBMH1&mkt=en-US will be sent. Address strings might unintentionally contain personal information, but this information is not used to identify, contact or target advertising to you.
Statistics about your usage of Suggested Sites will also be sent to Microsoft such as the time that websites were visited, which Website referred you, and how you got there (e.g., by clicking a link or one of your Favorites). This information, along with the Website addresses and past history, will be used to personalize your experience, as well as improve the quality of our products and services. Microsoft will not use any information collected to identify, contact or target advertising to you.

How to turn on Suggested Sites:

  • In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button.
  • Click Suggested Sites. A check mark will indicate Suggested Sites is turned on.

How to turn off Suggested Sites:

  • In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button.
  • Click Suggested Sites to clear the check mark and turn Suggested Sites off.

Note: Turning off Suggested Sites does not clear your history.

To delete your browsing history (with or without turning off Suggested Sites), follow these steps:

  • In Internet Explorer, click the Safety menu.
  • Select Delete Browsing History

Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology that connects computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices and allows them to communicate wirelessly over short distances. Many computers (especially laptops) come with the Bluetooth functionality pre-installed.If your computer/laptop does not have pre-installed Bluetooth functionality, you may be able to buy a USB-based Bluetooth dongle that will provide Bluetooth functionality for your computer.

The Phone Data Manager Beta application works only with those Bluetooth dongles/adapters that are compatible with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack.
