On November 18,2008 Microsoft has announced that, they are planning to offer a new consumer security offering focused on core anti-malware protection. This solution will be offer to consumers at no charge. Code-named “Morro,” this streamlined solution will be available in the second half of 2009 and will provide comprehensive protection from malware including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans. This new solution will be developed in such a way that it will use less computing resources and ideal for low-bandwidth scenarios. Microsoft also announced that it will discontinue retail sales of its Windows Live OneCare subscription service effective June 30, 2009.

On November 17,2008 Sun has released the latest version of it’s office productivity suite that is StarOffice 9. StarOffice 9.0 comes with the native support for Mac OS X. Star Office 9.0 is developed on top of Open Office 3.0. StarOffice 9.0 uses Mozilla’s Thunderbird email client and Lightning extension for calendaring as part of its distribution. The suite includes many extensions that make it easier to perform common tasks such as editing PDF files, creating reports, blogging, and publishing wikis.

Now there is no need to create a separate account for accessing ThinkFree online office suite. ThinkFree now supports sign with Google account credentials. All of the ThinkFree office suite services are not free, ThinkFree offers My Office as free online office suite application. ThinkFree also added PDF Viewer to office suite application. This new PDF Viewer allow users to view PDF documents without installing any PDF reader application mainly Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader.

Spammers are now using Reputation hijacking. Spammers sending requests for joining Yahoo Groups, When users click on the join Yahoo Group link they will be directed to a Yahoo Group page but they also get an ad that is there for serving the malware. If you join this group you will get a gift mail and most importantly your email is a part of yahoo group that is being run by a spammer. So be careful before joining to any yahoo groups that comes in the form of invitation.

By the next Monday UK customers will be able to purchase Microsoft Equipt. UK PC World customers will be the first in the UK to get hands on Microsoft Equipt. Microsoft has set £60 annual subscription fees to it’s combination of desktop and online services. Microsoft Office 2007 Home or Student Edition with Windows Live One Care Antivirus software are the part of desktop applications in Microsoft Equipt. Windows Live tools, such as Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Photo Gallery are the part of Microsoft Equipt’s Online Services.
If Microsoft offers the same version of Microsoft Equipt here in UK then UK users will also get the access to Office Live Workspace, a dedicated online workspace where documents can be shared with friends and classmate, that they have offers to US customers.
Whenever a new version of any of the software or internet service arrives Microsoft Equipt customers will get the updates with free of cost. I see Microsoft Equipt is a good choice over the other online office suite applications where users has to pay $50 per year and then they have to chose some other desktop based office suite application.
DSGi, owner of PC World, Currys and Dixons, is currently the sole partner in the UK and will carry the Equipt service through PC World stores nationwide from 20 October.

Open Office 3.0 is now available for download. Open Office 3.0 comes after a three year of development. Open Office 3.0 now supports the collaborative features so that multiple users can now view and edit the same document. Open Office 3.0 also solved it’s interoperability with OpenDocument Format (ODF) 1.2 file format and Office 2007 OOXML. One of the features that I liked most about the Open Office 3.0 is the ability to read Microsoft Office 2007 or 2008 in .docx, .xlsx, .pptx or other new formats. OpenOffice 3.0 can also read and write documents in standardized OpenDocument Format (ODF) 1.2.
Open Office 3.0 comes with a lot of enhancements including word processing, presentation, spreadsheets, graphics, databases and other applications, reliability and performance improvements. Open Office 3.0 now can display multiple pages while editing this feature help it’s users to utilize the complete size of their screens. Open Office 3.0 workbooks now supports 1024 columns in each spreadsheet and sharing options makes it really make it more useful for it’s users to easily collaborate on same spreadsheet.
The Mac version of Open Office 3.0 partially supports Visual Basic for writing customs code and macros. With this new version of Open Office 3.0, it becomes a complete native OS X application unlike it’s previous version where Open Office relied on OS X’s X11 graphical environment for UNIX applications that resulted in relatively slow performance and had a non-standard user interface. You can easily improve the look of your tables in seconds by using table styles in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007.

Select the table that you want to format.

A set of Table Tools contextual tabs appears on the user interface. Click the Design tab to reach the Table Styles gallery.

Browse through the available prebuilt styles by pausing on each table. You’ll see a preview of your table’s appearance with that style.

Click the table format that you like, and apply the changes to your presentation. You can use the other features and galleries on the Design and Layout tabs to further customize your table.

Windows Live Translator is now integrated into Office . Users can use this feature using the Research pane in their office application. Windows Live Translator will come to Office 2003 and Office 2007 as an automatic update. Office users can also manually install Windows Live Translator to their Office application.
We have officially handed over our code to the Microsoft Office team for the integration of the translation tool directly in the Research Task Pane. Once they have finished their own testing and "flipped the switch" on their side, the feature will auto-update in existing versions of Office. I’ll blog about that here again when that happens - at that point, no additional setup steps will be necessary.

Zoho the online office suite is now reached to 1 Million user base. Zoho has reached this milestone in less then 3 years.
The path to this milestone is certainly exciting. While we started slow, we picked up momentum adding more applications as we moved along and the applications improved week after week, thanks to our engineering team.
It took us 1 Year to get to the first 100K users. As of last July we were serving 300K users and one year later on Aug 1, when Dean Detton from Prestige Home Automation registered for Zoho CRM, he became our Millionth user.
