Google has rolled out a new feature for it’s Gmail users. Gmail users now can send free SMS from their chat window to any mobile that is capable of accepting text message. The new feature will be available through Gmail Labs which can be accessed via the settings tab in Gmail.
How to send free SMS using the Gmail
Enable the Text Messaging in the chat by Going to Setting–>Labs options in your Gmail account.
To send an SMS Gmail user simply has to enter the mobile number and press enter it will ask you to save the mobile number and name of recipient.
Google assigns the Gmail sender a persistent pseudo-phone number so that the SMS recipient can send SMS messages back to the Gmail user at a later time using a consistent identifier
Its really a good news but its restricted to US residents only.
I would be more happy when service starts atleast for India.
Hi Rohit, you can send free sms to India using http://www.my-cool-sms.com. It works perfectly and has a much nicer user interface than google.
you can use http://www.chikkatalk.com to register and using that you can send sms to indian mobile through google talk
