Google Analytics has a huge user base of SMB webmasters but according to CMS watch report Yahoo Analytics beats Google Analytics in several key features that are useful for enterprises.  CMS Watch released its 470-page Web Analytics Report 2009, which evaluates twenty web analytics platforms against twelve potential use-cases. CMS watch has includes Bango, Coremetrics, GlanceGuide, Intellitracker, Lyris, Nedstat, Omniture, Unica, Visible Measures, and WebTrends, as well as Google and Yahoo! analyzed for thier reports.

Key areas where Yahoo! Web Analytics surpasses Google

  • Better access control options and simpler approach to multi-site analytics
  • Larger default monthly page-view limits (200MM vs. 5MM — unless you have an active AdWords campaign)
  • Access to traffic data: Both vendors retain the right to hold and use your web analytics data for their own purposes, but only Yahoo! gives you the ability to export out your raw, un-aggregated data
  • Longer historical availability of reports and data

According to CMS Watch founder Tony Byrne

Nevertheless, savvier enterprise customers explain that their concerns about data access and migration — especially in the absence of effective data verification services – make them queasy about signing on with Google. Ultimately, for some enterprises, neither Google nor Yahoo! makes a good fit and those buyers should consider fee-based web analytics solutions.
