Indian government has delayed the mobile number portability plan till 31 march 2010. Earlier Indian government planned to roll out this service in stages from 31 December 2009 in four metros and in in some other cities. The rollout in March will now be across the country at one go, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said. It said that it had delayed the rollout because some operators had not yet upgraded their networks to support MNP.
What is Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Plan?
Mobile Number portability plan is a service that allow mobile subscribers to retain their mobile numbers after they change their mobile operators. As of now if mobile subscriber want to switch to a new subscriber they have to change their mobile number.
