On the subject of file backup, sharing and storage …

Online backup is becoming common these days. It is estimated that 70-75% of all PC’s will be connected to online backup services with in the next decade.

Thousands of online backup companies exist, from one guy operating in his apartment to fortune 500 companies.

Choosing the best online backup company will be very confusing and difficult. One website I find very helpful in making a decision to pick an online backup company is:

    http://www.BackupReview.info

This site lists more than 400 online backup companies in its directory and ranks the top 25 on a monthly basis.

You should mention http://www.MyOtherDrive.com. They have all the online backup features of Carbonite and Mozy, but significantly better sharing, including private sharing and secure links.

  8. Jack says:

Stay away from SOS Online Backup. One big big red flag is you can view your user name and password in the SOS installation folder in the log files. This is the same user name and password SOS says encrypts your data. What kind of encryption is that?

Not listed here, but a great alternative, is MyOtherDrive.com. This site offers both online backup and file sharing. Most online backup sites stop there. But MyOtherDrive allows users to selectively share out some of their folders. Once you get used to backing up online, and realize you can “do more” with your data when it is stored online, you will see why an online backup site like http://www.myotherdrive.com is preferred over the ones listed here.
