Online Backup Service Launched by Comcast

Comcast Secure Backup and Share Comcast the largest cable operator in USA has launched a new service called “Comcast Secure Backup and Share” , an online backup service. This service is powered by Mozy, a known online backup provider currently owned by EMC. Secure Backup & Share automatically backs up files on your computer to an offsite location (i.e. somewhere other than your house) so you can rest assured your files are safe. Also, you can access your files (think wedding and vacation photos or a video from your child’s soccer game) remotely, and share them with your friends and family on a variety of devices (including mobile devices).

High-speed Internet customers automatically receive the Standard 2GB Storage Plan with their subscription. Two gigs is enough storage to back up about 500 music files or 10,000 documents (for the sake of this example we’ve assumed that an average music file is about 4MB and an average document runs about 200 KB).

  1. I’d definitely recommend online back up services. I’ve used them every since I lost all my data in a fire; they just give that extra piece of mind so if anything like that did happen, I know it’s not the end of the world.
