Antivirus 2009 Removed From Almost 394000 Computers Thanks to Microsoft

Microsoft has removed the rouge Antivirus software program called Antivirus 2009 almost from 394000 computers. December’s version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), a free utility that Microsoft pushes to Windows users as part of Patch. Apart from the Antivirus 2009 some other rouge software programs are also removed by the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool including "Antivirus XP," "AntivirusXP 2008" and "Antivirus 2009".

In this month Microsoft has added Win32/Yektel. Win32/Yektel is a different kind of rogue. Like other rogues, it displays fake warnings about possibly malware or spyware, but rather than pretending to be a security product itself, it tries to blend in with its surroundings.

Recent variants go further, however, injecting messages into Google search results. In fact, Yektel’s BHO inserts this into any page that IE retrieves from a URL with the string "google" in it:

All of the above web pages will redirect you to a fake Antivirus software website asking users to register or buy fake antivirus software or register their copy of Windows.
