Gates Shows: 5 New Technologies on TechEd2008
Microsoft chairman Bill Gates on his public tradeshow keynote at the company’s TechEd Developers Conference in Orlando, shows five new technologies of Microsoft. So without wasting anytime let’s have a close look to each of these new five technologies Internet Explorer Beta 2, Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2, Microsoft Sync Framework ,Velocity and Parallel Extension to .Net Framework
Internet Explorer Beta 2
Microsoft next generation of internet browser is ready to launch in August 08. Microsoft officials said that users can expect that IE8 will be a more Fully-standards-compliant browser in IE series. Microsoft officials has still not confirmed the date when we can expect the final version of Internet Explorer 8.
Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2
Silverlight is the technology designed to give Microsoft technology web designers to a more flexibility as well as compete with Adobe’s Flash Technology. Silverlight Beta has some more new feature including updates to Deep Zoom and animation, networking and data-handling improvements, Windows Presentation Foundation compatibility, and improvements in error handling and reporting. Microsoft has released Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2 via Go Live license, which means companies can use Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2 code in production if they desire to use. Microsoft officials said that we can expect the final version of Silverlight 2.0 in later summer of 2008. Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2 is available for download.
Microsoft Sync Framework
Microsoft Sync Framework is one of the synchronization platforms for collaboration and offline app access. Recently Microsoft launched its Live Mesh as a platform for synchronization and collaboration. Microsoft Sync Framework provides P2P synchronization of “any type of file, including contacts, music, videos, images and settings,” according to Microsoft’s download site. The framework provides built-in support for synchronizing relational databases, NTFS/FAT file systems and Simple Sharing Extensions for RSS/ATOM, according to Microsoft . The latest CTP expected to ship in third quarter of 2008.
Velocity
First CTP of Velocity is expected in 2008. Microsoft says about Velocity “distributed in-memory application cache platform”. Aim behind the Velocity is that it will stream line the development of high-performance .Net applications that requires frequent access to disparate data sources. Velocity will move data from data center to the middle-tier and distribute the cache that will work on cluster of nodes. Microsoft saying that, it will provide increased app performance and scale. Microsoft is also planning to integrate Velocity into .Net Framework, but no official date is released.
Parallel Extension to .Net Framework
Microsoft has made Parallel Extension to .Net Framework available in November 2007. Parallel Extensions are designed to make it easier to develop concurrent applications written with any .Net language. On June 2, 2008, Microsoft has released an update to the community technology preview (CTP) of Parallel Extensions to the .NET Framework.

I am really impressed with the way you have presented things here. I work on microsoft technologies apart from blogging. Right now on sharepoint 2007 and wcf.

Great read! I do know a few clients who have had Server Intellect install Velocity on a few of their servers. Says its running and they are quietly awaiting the full release.

Although Velocity has made progress from CTP1 to CTP2, it still leaves much to be desired. It will be some time before they provide all the important features in a distributed cache and even longer before it is tested in the market. I wish them good luck.
In the meantime, NCache already provides all CTP2 & V1, and many more features. NCache is the first, the most mature, and the most feature-rich distributed cache in the .NET space. NCache is an enterprise level in-memory distributed cache for .NET and also provides a distributed ASP.NET Session State. Check it out at Distributed Caching.
NCache Express is a totally free version of NCache. Check it out at NCache Express.
