Microsoft Office 14 Will Run on Windows XP

Microsoft has confirmed that the next version of Microsoft Office system called ”Office 14” can be run on old Windows XP systems. Microsoft might be considering that most of the big enterprises will go for Wundows7 upgrade or not. So if Office 14 run of Windows XP systems that gives Microsoft another to way to sell their next version of Office system.

That’s what Microsoft Business Software SVP Chris Capossela told SAI in an interview yesterday about Office 14. Chris said:

Our install base of Office 2003 and 2007 is actually quite quite high in enterprises even if XP is what most enterprises are still using on their PCs.  We’re looking at XP [for Office 14] with some service pack.  We don’t think it makes sense to require only Windows 7 with a new version of Office.

This time Microsoft office and Windows teams are working separately, so their is very less chances that Office 14 and Window7 hit the market at the same time, prior to this Microsoft has released Windows and Office together like Windows Vista with Office 2007 and with Windows XP  Office XP. We can expect Windows7 by the end of this year and Office 14 by 2010. Windows7 definitely hit the market before the holiday season.

Working independent with Windows team is good for Office 14 team because now they can focus on cloud based feature and Office users does not require any specific version of windows operating system to run Office 14. Enterprise customers will looking mostly for Office and Exchange updates or upgrades if both of them can run on Windows XP system.
