Photosynth Brings A three-dimensional View of Photos

3

Photosynth is a new technology introduced by Microsoft. Photosynth takes photos of places analyze them for similarities and arrange these photos in a 3-dimensional space.Photosynth provides an immersive interface where you can "walk up" to any object in a photograph…or place yourself where the photographer was when the picture was taken.Photosynth provides easy controls for exploring a collection of photos in 3D with a click of a mouse. Imagine being able to see your favorite band from either the front row or the bleachers, walking around that new motorbike you’ve been thinking of buying, or flying over every nook and cranny of a famous landmark.

Photosynth incorporates Seadragon’s amazingly smooth digital rendering and zoom capabilities.

The fastest, smoothest image zooming you’ve seen — Whether it’s 1 megapixel or 1 gigapixel, Seadragon can open any image in a flash, and zoom and pan with buttery smoothness. Images "come into focus" continuously as data comes across the network, and the speed of this focusing is determined only by your screen size and bandwidth, not the size of your image.

Big collections? No problem — Seadragon can browse collections of many thousands of full resolution images just as smoothly as a single image. Photosynth collections typically have hundreds of photos, but the same performance characteristics apply to collections of 5,000 images and beyond.
