Today at Windows Phone summit, Microsoft announced platform enhancements for Windows Phone 8. These announcements will enable developers to leverage the same core used in Windows 8 on Windows Phone 8 .

  1. Windows Phone 8 will support latest and greatest hardware including multi core processors
  2. Windows phone 8 will support 3 new screen resolutions and most importantly all new Windows Phone 7.5 app will work on Windows Phone 8 devices without any change
  3. Support for removal Micro SD Cards enabling users to add more storage to their phone. Support for Micro SD card also helps manufactures to reduce the initial cost of Windows Phone.
  4. Windows Phone 8 will have full support for IE 10. IE 10 will have support for Smart Screen technology helping end users to protect them from malicious website.
  5. Windows Phone 8 will support for Native Code. Native code enables game developers to create killer games for Windows Phone 8. Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 shares common graphics driver and DirectX. Native code support enables iOS developers to easily port their applications on Windows Phone 8 devices. It’s a win-win situation for driver authors, because their driver now run on multiple platforms including Windows Phone 8 and Widows 8.
  6. Support native NFC.
  7. The most complete wallet experience, Microsoft’s model works with mobile operator’s security model not like Google’s model. Every windows Phone will have Wallet support.
  8. Windows Phone 8 will include support for Nokia Mapping data support for offline map data.
  9. Windows Phone 8 is now for business, it will have support for encryption powered by bit locker technology, secure boot. With Windows Phone 8 , IT administrators can sign and deploy their applications on Windows Phone 8 devices without going to Windows Phone marketplace. IT administrators now manage Windows Phone 8 devices using the same management applications that they are using to manage Windows devices.
  10. Windows Phone 8 will have a new start screen. Users will be able to change the size of live tiles and customize start screen.
