Microsoft introduced a new version of Windows Server 2008 called Windows Server 2008 Foundation for SMB with users 15 or less. Initially it will be available in 40 countries. Windows Server 2008 Foundation is available through Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) only.Hewlett-Packard, Dell and IBM are going to release the Windows Server 2008 foundation server sometime in the second half of this year, according to Microsoft.
Windows Server 2008 Foundation is best suited for basic and small IT needs including running and maintaining a database, Web-site hosting, running line-of-business applications, file- and print-sharing and remote access, among other uses.
One of the very good thing about Windows Server 2008 Foundation is that Windows Server 2008 Foundation is licensed by user accounts. Each license of Windows Server 2008 Foundation is limited to a maximum of 15 user accounts. Moreover, a user account can be assigned to only one distinct user at a time.
