1 December The 20th Anniversary of World AIDS Day

Today 1 December 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. Committee was organized In 1988 by the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the first World AIDS Day in an effort to raise public awareness about HIV/AIDS issues, including the need for support and understanding for people living with HIV/AIDS. The day is also an opportunity to highlight the need for continued development of education and prevention initiatives.The slogan of the World AIDS Campaign in 2001–2010 remains "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise".

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

AIDS is one of the biggest problems facing the world today and nobody is beyond its reach. Everyone should know the basic facts about AIDS -
1. AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a medical condition. People develop AIDS because HIV has damaged their natural defenses against disease.

2. HIV stands for the ‘Human Immunodeficiency Virus’. Viruses infect the cells that make up the human body and replicate (make new copies of themselves) within those cells. A virus can also damage human cells, which is one of the things that can make a person ill.

3. AIDS is a disease for which there is no cure. There is no pill, no vaccine, no surgery to make you better.

You can support World AIDS Day -
1. Raise money for community based  in the parts of the world most severely affected by HIV and AIDS.
2. Join our campaign–  You can join such campaign and make others aware & encourage to protect from these diseases. So its request you all to join such campaign.
3. Wear a red ribbon and raise awareness–The red ribbon is an international symbol of AIDS awareness that is worn by people all year round and particularly around World AIDS Day to demonstrate care and concern about HIV and AIDS
4. raise awareness–December 1 is one day in which we can raise awareness about what is happening due to this diseases.
