NASA( Center for Computational Sciences) has nearly tripled it’s super computer power by deploying IBM’s iDataPlex servers. NASA uses these super computers to simulate earth climate and weather. NASA also uses these super computers to find relationship between our planet’s and sun. NASA, scientists are integrating the iDataPlex servers with their existing system. The resulting system will have 1,024 quad-core Intel Xeon processors and raising performance capabilities from 25 to 67 teraflops (trillion calculations per second).

Dr. Phil Webster, NCCS Project Manager and Chief of the Computational and Information Sciences and Technology Office at Goddard Space Flight Center, said

By nearly tripling Discover’s performance, NASA scientists will be able to run models with higher resolution and greater fidelity to the underlying physical phenomena. IBM’s iDataPlex solution for NCCS will provide critical compute power for current and future NASA Earth and space science studies.

Computational projects running on Discover include projections of Earth’s 21st century climate, a reanalysis of global weather observations taken since the satellite era began in 1979, modeling of solar activity that affects weather and communications, and complex simulations of merging black holes and solar system formation.

Attackers are using different different techniques to spread malwares to infect Internet users computers. Now they are using fake blogs and forums to spread the Malwares. Trend Lab have discovered several fake blogs hosted on a popular and trusted blog publishing tool that have been inserted with a malicious IFrame to redirect users to a porn Web site. Here’s a screenshot of a fake blog:

These blogs redirects users to porn websites while inserting the following script code.

There are some other types of blogs also. They don’t make any sense, they just have a series of words type to just make a blog post. hey contain links to “Movies, Pictures, Videos” however. When clicked they redirect users to this porn site that promises free videos:

When users try to view any video, These blogs ask users to download Codec to view the video.

The codec supposedly could be downloaded from the URL http://ultimate-x-{BLOCKED}s.net/up/UltimateVideoCodec-71.exe. The said site is inaccessible, however, and further investigation reveals that hackers made some mistake here. The URL should be http://online-x-{BLOCKED}s.net/up/UltimateVideoCodec-71.exe.

Trend Micro detects the file UltimateVideoCodec-71.exe-1 as TROJ_DROPPER.BX. Upon execution, this Trojan drops the file Xml2u32h.dll, detected as TROJ_BHO.EZ.

Trend Lab has discovered over thousands blogs of this type, which are believed to be created by the malicious users themselves just for this particular operation. Users may be lured easily into clicking links in blogs with legitimate or reputable domains and they may not consider what’s posted inside as being potentially dangerous to their systems.

Users are advised to be careful in clicking links and in downloading files even if these links are posted in legitimate blogs.

The World Foundation of Advertisers has now joined a large group of organizations by stepping forward and objecting to the partnership. WFA has written to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.  EU officials were already investigating the matte.

The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) fears that the proposed advertising alliance between Yahoo and Google will have a detrimental effect on competition, result in price increases and reduce the options available to advertisers worldwide. It has therefore sent a written submission to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition recommending that they block this agreement.

The submission is supported by WFA national advertiser associations, including the US Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA), as well as its corporate members. Although Google and Yahoo insist this agreement is limited to North America, WFA believes that the effects will be global. One reason for this is that the substantial benefits for both parties in the US and Canada will almost certainly reduce their incentive to compete in other markets as they do today.

The National Security Agency developed a configuration guide for default installations of Leopard. According to Information Week, it’s not a completely comprehensive guide but it’s a good start — While the agency’s advice may not be sufficient to stop a government agency like, say, the NSA, from accessing one’s Mac, it should significantly improve one’s security posture against less capable hackers.

• Use Software Update: Regularly applying system updates is extremely important
• Disable Automatic Login and User List and Disable guest account and sharing.
• In the System Preferences Security Pane, set Require Password when waking the computer from sleep or a screensaver. Also, disable automatic login, use secure virtual memory, and disable remote control infrared receiver if present. Consider activating FileVault, particularly for portable systems
• In the Firewall tab, select "Allow only essential services." Click the Advanced button and enable Firewall Logging and Stealth Mode.
• The NSA recommendations also cover securing users’ home folder permissions, physical security, disabling IPv6, AirPort and other unnecessary services when not needed, disabling Setuid and Setgid binaries, configuring and using both firewalls, among other suggestions.

Google has launched a web application to find cheapest fuel in their area. Google developed fuel price gadget in partnership with petrol price monitoring company MotorMouth, finds the price of unleaded, diesel, LPG and other fuel types at service stations near a given address. Google has noticed high number of search queries for fuel prices from Australia and they come with Fuel price gadget. Currently fuel price gadget had prices for about 50 per cent of petrol stations in major cities at launch and that the figure would increase.
