All have the same motive to install any software on your computer and that software will steal all your important information like bank account derails, user name and passwords, credit card information. Some of attackers have different motive like they want to destroy all your running programs. Act Safely Online: Don’t visit websites that ask for your personal information. Don’t open email from unknown source and never send your personal information to any unknown sender. Be careful before clicking the url’s in emails. Some times these url’s may redirect to some legitimate-looking but bogus web site designed to steal your personal information Before entering your online bank account user name and password or credit card number double check that site is using “HTTPS://” or not and also that website is signed by some security or not. Never ever give your Full name, address, phone number or any other personal information in chat rooms.

Install Some Defense Software: For windows users have to install some protection software on their computer so that they can defend themselves from the penetration attacks. No single program will defend you from all types of attacks, so windows a user has to install a group of defense software’s. Use Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Rootkit and Intrusion Prevention programs.

Keep Your Program Up-to-Date: All anti-malware programs require frequent updating. This enables them to recognize new kinds of malware as they are developed. The programs listed above automatically check for updates and download and install them as needed. (Each has a panel where you can verify this feature.) You must also keep Windows up-to-date. In Vista, the automatic feature for this purpose is called Windows Update. It is on by default. You can manage it through the Control Panel | Security | Windows Update option

Test your Computer Penetration Resistance: There are some programs that can check your computer’s capability for penetration resistance. Like one of the Program is ShieldsUp! Program. ShieldsUp! Tells you about any security flaws it finds. It also displays the system information your computer gives out to every web site you visit. ShieldsUp is free software.

Use Strong Password: Passwords are the front doors to your computer and if you have a week passwords then it’s very easy for an attacker to get control of your computer system. Strong passwords are combination of letters, small and uppercase letters, numbers, special characters and space. If possible use space in your passwords. Backup and encrypt data: Try to take backup of your data on regular basics like weekly or monthly. Taking backup does not require more then some minutes but it makes life very easy if your computer system crashes. Only taking backup can’t make your life easy. If someone has physical access to your computer the he/she can read your important data. Modern operating systems are come with encryption option. Encryption can be used in computer hard drive as well as on the data residing outside the hard drive like your backups.

Use Administrator Rights Effectively: Using a computer in non administrative account makes you less prone to attacks as compare to running a compute in administrative account. In Windows operating system installing any program requires administrative rights. Windows Vista introduces a new feature called user account control that helps you avoid using administrator rights except when required. This feature prompts you to enter a password when you want to perform any action that requires administrator rights. While entering passwords may seem like a hassle, UAC is a big step towards a more secure Windows.
