Phishers Targets Apple iTunes Users
Phishers now targets iTunes users for identity theft. First iTunes is target by Phishers for identity theft. Phishers send spam messages to iTunes users telling them that must correct their user account problems. Spam has a link that redirect iTunes users for iTunes billing update page and that phony page asks for information including credit card number and security code, Social Security number and mother’s maiden name.
News of the phishing attempt comes by way of e-mail security firm Proofpoint, Inc. speaking to
We’ve gotten used to seeing the usual companies and brands attacked, like PayPal, eBay and Citibank. But we’ve never seen Apple as the target,” Proofpoint’s Andrew Lochart said. “It’s probably indicative that the bad guys see Apple’s online presence as large enough to be a target. It’s part and parcel of the success that Apple has enjoyed lately.”
Phishers this time try to attack on iTunes because of demographics. Unlike bank accounts and credit card accounts iTunes user base is most kids or teenagers. Most of the time kids don’t know their social security number and before entering their social security number they may contact to some adult.
The page designed for asking the billing information from iTunes users are very poorly designed by just paying some attention any one can get an idea that page asking for iTunes billing update is a spam page.
