How To Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts in Gmail

Gmail team has added a new feature in Gmail that will allow Gmail users to manage their large contact books more easily. With duplicate contact find and merge Gmail users would be able to find and merge duplicate contacts in Gmail with just one click. There are two ways you can merge them: one at a time, or all your duplicates at once.

To merge contacts one at a time:

  1. Select the contacts you’d like to merge from your contacts list.
  2. Click Merge these [#] contacts… on the right-side panel.
  3. Make any edits to the suggested solution (if you’d like to change anything).
  4. Click Save at the top of the page.

To find and merge all of your duplicate contacts at once, use the following instructions:

  1. Open the Contact Manager.
  2. Click the Find duplicates button in the right-side panel.
  3. We’ll display the duplicates we’ve found. You can expand them by clicking the details link next to each one and uncheck any that you don’t want to merge.
  4. When you’re ready, click Merge at the top of the list.

As of now this feature is only available for Gmail contacts not for all contacts present in your Gmail Contact book.
