Microsoft has launched it’s latest version of Live Search API 2.0 at PubCon 2008. Microsoft is calling this project named as “Project Silk Road”. Project Silk Road allows developers to serve their search results in the rank and format that they choose . Developers can use JSON, SOAP, or XML formats to get their results and format according to their requirements. For doing all these developers need to have the AppID.
Live Search services codenamed "Silk Road"
Silk Road is Live Search’s new set of search APIs (version 2.0 beta) and services for developers. With Silk Road, you can build applications without restrictions around presentation. Getting started is simple: decide what search content you want, choose from JSON, SOAP, or XML output, and then customize them according to your needs to build your own search application. All you need to get going is an AppID.
Developer can access content from Encarta, related search queries, and a set of tools — like an Excel add-in that tracks keyword performance. Currently Silk Road Project is in broad beta stage and Microsoft is inviting a good number of web publishers and developers to use Live Search API 2.0 and give feedback to Microsoft.
Key Features of Live Search API 2.0
-
A 404 Error Toolkit that allows you to create a better experience and keep users on your site, even when they enter a search that returns no results.
-
Related content for search queries, such as images, news, and other web results.
-
Flexible terms of use with no daily limit on queries and control over how to rank and format search results.
-
Increased number of supported standard web service protocols from SOAP only to now include RSS, JSON, and XML.
-
Additional data types exposed through the API, including related search results and Encarta instant answers, added to previously supported data types of web, image, news, spelling, and phonebook queries.
Note: The application and review process for participation includes criteria for site quality and traffic volume. Chosen sites must meet Microsoft Editorial Guidelines for publishers and fit within our top strategic verticals. Sites also must have enough traffic to enable them to dedicate a reasonable number of web impressions to the program.

However, it only offers one cover page template, unlike eFax Messenger, which offers 14 of them. Even if youre used to using the old equipment, and have invested money in buying a fax machine and keeping it up and running, sending the faxes over the internet can be a lot cheaper.
