Windows 7 includes a utility called Reliability monitor that lets you to measures hardware and software problems and other changes to your computer. Reliability monitor provides stability index ranges from 1 (the least stable) to 10 (the most stable).
Reliability Monitor calculates a System Stability Index that reflects whether unexpected problems reduced the reliability of the system. A graph of the Stability Index over time quickly identifies dates when problems began to occur. The accompanying System Stability Report provides details to help troubleshoot the root cause of reduced reliability. By viewing changes to the system (installation or removal of applications and updates to the operating system) side by side with failures (application, operating system, or hardware failures), you can develop a strategy for addressing the issues quickly.
You can launch Reliability monitor via “perfmon /rel” command.
In Reliability Monitor, you can:
- Click any event on the graph to view its details.
- Click Days or Weeks to view the stability index over a specific period of time.
- Click items in the Action column to view more information about each event.
- Click View all problem reports to view only the problems that have occurred on your computer. This view doesn’t include the other computer events that show up in Reliability Monitor, such as events about software installation.
Reliability monitor allows you to save, view problem report in detail and check for solutions to all problems. Solutions appear in Windows Action center.
